Uncompromising Zionism in North Africa

In July 1950, Moroccan Rabbi Yahya Ben Harosh wrote a letter to his students chastising those exposed ultraOrthodox anti-Zionist influences for disparaging and denigrating Zionist leaders the founders of State Israel. This article discusses historical background letter, including ideological foundation rabbi’s vigorous protest: from position regarding messianic concept religious affirmation Zionism as national-liberation movement. As such, Harosh’s stimulating is not an isolated episode but reflection longstanding antecedents Zionism, dating back 16th century, which contained main elements would-be endeavour. So much so that it arguable century set in motion fundamental process worthy being departure point historiography.

We prospectively studied 478 patients with megaloblastic anemia living in Tunisia. Overall, 98% of patients had vitamin B12 deficiency. Pernicious anemia accounted for most of these cases, and median age at presentation was 45 years. Megaloblastic anemia occurred in 19 subjects under 15 years of age, and of these, nine had the Immerslund-Graesbeck syndrome.
